Reading for Pleasure

Reading for Pleasure at Cottesmore Academy

Reading is a vital part of our curriculum at Cottesmore Academy and reading for pleasure is at the heart of that.

Read'n'Relax

After the Star Learner assembly on a Friday, the adults have the opportunity to share some of their favourite books with the children. The adults' choices are displayed in the corridor so that the children can look at the books before Friday's decision time.

What our team have said about Read'n'Relax:

"I love it! You get to listen to a different teacher read a story."

Jess (Y6)

"I really enjoy Read'n'Relax as it is fun and relaxing."

Moyo (Y2)

"I love sharing different books with the children. Some are classics, some are personal favourites and some will one day be classics! It is a great way to finish the week."

Mrs Giblin (Y4)

Our Library: The Room of Requirement

We are very lucky to have a big, comfortable library at Cottesmore Academy where the children can enjoy being surrounded by books whilst reading! We believe that reading is magical therefore we have themed our library after the Room of Requirements from the Harry Potter series.

Authors, Authors, Authors

This year the Year 4, 5, and 6 classes have been very lucky to listen to two authors talk about their books and their writing process: Gill Lewis, the author of Sky Hawk and Jeff Kinney, the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Both events were amazing and the children are looking forward to spending more time with authors in the future!

Bedtime Book Boxes

In our school children can be chosen to take a very special book box home for a while. The box is for bedtime so the children and their family can share a book, have a cuddle with a teddy and have a hot chocolate. Once the children have read the book they can write in the diary to tell us what they thought of the book.

We have a set of bedtime book boxes for Years 2 and 3 and a different set for Years 4, 5 and 6.

Park and Read!

At Cottesmore Academy, we believe that the child's voice is of vital importance and sharing our love of books is something to be celebrated! Therefore, we have a dedicated space to allow the children and staff to share their favourite book.

Reading Trophies

Reading is one of the biggest achievement that you can do and we want to celebrate this with the team! Therefore, we have the Cottesmore Reading Trophies: 50 reads, 100 reads, 150 reads and 200 reads.
