Week 10 15.06 - 19.06

English

This week Team, we are going to look at writing a poem. When we were back at school at school we wrote a poem based on Down Behind the Dustbin by Michael Rosen. This time we are going to write a poem about transport. Our focus this week will be learning how to rhyme words. By Friday I would like you to have a recoding of you performing at part or the whole of your poem.

 

On Monday you are going to read a poem called The Wheels on the Bus.

On Tuesday, you are going to focus rhyming.

On Wednesday, I want you to plan your poem. Remember this just has to be notes.

On Thursday, I want you to write your poem.

On Friday, I want you to practise and then perform your poem.

Spelling

We are on WEEK 2 of our work. Your child is learning how letters can make different sounds.  These words have the letter ‘o’ which makes a sound like a short ‘u’ (as in ‘mud’).   

 

This week's words have the letter ‘o’ which can make the short ‘u’ sound.  Often before a ‘v’, ‘n’ or ‘th’.

 

You can find this weeks spelling sheet as an image below, but also as a word document you can download and print out. If you can't print, just write the words out in your spelling books. 

 

Week 1
• Monday – Thursday: Week 1 spelling work consists of children practising these words (using a writing pencil), using the look cover write check method. They can also choose to practise them using one of the ‘fun ways to practise your spellings’ if they would like to.
• Friday: Test – ask someone at home to test you on all of the spelling words you have been practising. Reflect on any words you found tricky – make these words/rules your focus for next week.


Week 2
• Monday – Thursday: Week 2 spelling work consists of children including each word in a sentence then writing the sentences in their spelling book. They can also choose to practise them using one of the ‘fun ways to practise your spellings’ if they would like to.
• Friday: Test – ask someone at home to test you on all of the spelling words you have been practising.

Maths

This week we are going to continue to work on learning how to measuring mass, volume and temperature.

 

We are going to carry on doing new learning, so we will be working in our Power Maths books on certain days. When you click on the link below you we see a presentation for each day. Work through the slides and then work on the questions I ask you to do in your Power Maths book. Don't go further then I ask, as this will be learning for other days!

 

On Monday, we will be learning to measure volume.

On Tuesday, we will be learning to measure volume.

Topic

We are going to carry on looking at habitats. This week Team, we will learn what about living, dead and non-living. We are going be able to sort items into this categories and justify your reasons.

 

As always team, I would like you to open and then work through the presentation below. This week's challenge is to complete the table and justify your reasons.
