This week our focus writing genre is Instructions.
By the end of this week, you will have completed your writing mission: to write a set of instructions to help a group of cunning pirates find some hidden treasure.
Each day, you will have an English activity to help you to work towards this.
On Monday, you are going to read a set of instructions and answer some questions about them. Remember to use the text and what you have read to help you - you don't need to remember all of the answers, just find them in the text!
On Tuesday, you are going to learn about prepositions. There is some information for you to look at and read and an activity for you to complete.
On Wednesday, you will start to plan your instructions by creating your own treasure map and labeling it with prepositions and expanded noun phrases.
On Thursday and Friday, you will be writing your instructions.
Click on the stars below to access the English activity for each day.
Once you have finished, you could plan your own treasure hunt at home, draw a map and create some instructions to help someone in your family find the hidden treasure!
Your spellings will continue to work on a two-weekly cycle. (This week is Week 1)
For the next two weeks, your spellings focus on the ‘ch’ spelling making a ‘k’ sound.
Please see below for a guide for how the cycle will work.
• Monday – Thursday: In Week 1 your spelling work consists of you practising these words (using a writing pencil), using the look cover write check method. You can also choose to practise them using one of the ‘fun ways to practise your spellings’ if you would like to.
• Friday: Test – ask someone at home to test you on 10 of the spelling words you have been practising. Reflect on any words you found tricky – make these words/rules your focus for next week.
• Monday – Thursday: In Week 2 your spelling work consists of you including each word in a sentence then writing the sentences in your spelling book. You can also choose to practise them using one of the ‘fun ways to practise your spellings’ if you would like to.
• Friday: Test – ask someone at home to test you on all of the spelling words you have been practising.

This week, our maths learning will focus on addition and subtraction, rounding and place value.
Each day, there is a fluency activity to practise your skills and a reasoning or problem solving activity to deepen your understanding.
Have fun, team!

In Science, we have been learning about electricity. This week, you have two activities to complete all about electrical appliances in your home.
For the first activity, you need to create a table of electrical and non-electrical appliances that you can find in your home. (See the teaching slides below to help you.)
For the second activity, your big question is 'Do we really need electricity? You will need to record how you use electricity for a whole day. Decide whether it is essential or non-essential.
