Cottesmore Academy

Think, believe, dream, dare…

Term 1

Welcome to Cottesmore Academy! We are super excited for the learning journey that is about to begin with you!

We will be starting the year off getting to know each other, our interests and some of the different things that we would like to learn about throughout our time together. Our first few weeks will allow us to have some time to settle in to our new setting and get used to some of the routines such as break and lunch times. We will soon begin learning some sounds following the Read Write Inc. phonics program whereby we will not only practise saying the sounds, but also learn rhymes to help us remember how to write the letters correctly. We are hoping that the team will help us adults out by sharing videos of the correct pronunciation of the sounds as well as formation rhymes, so be sure to come back soon to check them out!  We will begin our maths learning journey too; this will include shape, number and measure. We will start by getting to know each child's understanding of number, shape and measure and then begin to build a solid foundation that will be developed throughout their schooling career.

Our outdoor area will be accessed all year round! We do have some spare wellies and waterproof clothing for the children to borrow, however it would be great if your children could bring in a 'wet weather kit' (wellies and waterproofs) so that we can further develop our knowledge and understanding through first hand experiences in all weathers. Also, as the temperature begins to drop, the children will need coats, gloves and hats where necessary. We will always encourage children to have a good go at putting on their coats and other items of clothing, so it would be great if you could practise this at home too! In addition, we ask that all PE kits are brought in on the first day of the term and they will then be returned home at the end of each term (unless they are in need of a clean).

We will shortly be sending you the information you need to link to our Class Dojo, here we love to share photos of the exciting things that we have been doing each day. We will also post reminders about upcoming events in school, so please do sign up.

Please remember that if you have any questions or queries, our door is always open!

Staggered Start Information

We give tremendous thought to our ‘staggered start’ approach to school because we always want the children to leave us feeling happy and wanting more! If children want to stay longer during their first term, we look on this as a great success and this means the quality of their learning is optimised! We understand how tired children get when they start school and we don’t ever want this to negatively impact on their feelings towards school and learning. Therefore, the dates and timings for our 'staggered start' are as follows:
