Today, you are going to be learning about speech. (We have done some learning about this before so it should be a recap, but an important one, as speech is tricky to get right and it makes such a huge difference to how stories are written once you've mastered it.)

Firstly, you will need to watch the short video clip to remind yourself about how inverted commas are used.
Then, there is some information you will need to read.
Next, there is another fun video for you to watch all about speech punctuation. (You will have seen this before, but it's important to watch it again to remind yourself of the rules.)
Finally, you need to have a go at the activities. (This week, we are using the activities on the BBC Bitesize website.)
For Activity 1 (on the website), you need to rewrite the conversation between Dani and her father, adding in the missing inverted commas.
For Activity 2 (below), you need to complete the activities on the sheet. You can either do this straight onto the sheet or you could write your answers in your English book.
For Activity 3 (on the website), you need to imagine you are sat at home with a friend or family member and something unusual happens. Maybe there’s a mysterious knock at the front door, perhaps your family pet starts to talk or you’ve suddenly been transported into space by an alien! Imagine the conversation that you would have and write it down in your English book using inverted commas correctly.
