Cottesmore Academy

Think, believe, dream, dareā€¦

Welcome to your English lessons!

Through this week, we are going to continue on our merry adventure through imaginary worlds!

Don't forget that we are going to be continuing with our class read, 'Nevermoor: The trials of Morrigan Crow' by Jessica Townsend! Some links will be added to the site when they have been recorded!

On day 1, you are going to focus on a reading comprehension - look out for the presentation pictures which will allow you to present your work in an EPIC fashion!

On day 2, you will be focusing on grammar! This week it is imperative verbs - remember to watch the imperative verb video which should help you to understand them!

On days 3-5, you will be focusing on different writing tasks. We are going to be focusing on creating our own worlds so that we can do some lovely tasks based on these!

Watch the videos if you need a little more help!

Day 1 - Reading Comprehension

Day 2 - Imperative Verbs

The Imperative Verbs Song

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Write 10 silly sentences based on imperative verbs - remember they must start the sentence. Underline the imperative verb!

For example,

Stand up and walk the plank Miss Pick whilst singing along to 'Back Street Back Alright!' by the Back Street Boys.

Using your mind maps from last week, write a descriptive paragraph about your new island.

Think carefully about these questions:

What can you hear? What can you taste? What can you touch? How does it feel? What can you smell? What can you see?

Watch Miss Pick's video to see her model her island!

DAY 4 - Writing Focus

Watch the video 'Instructions' by Neil Gaiman. Listen to the imperative verbs, can you spot them?

After watching the video, read through the text (the same poem) and in a mind map write down all the imperative verbs that Neil Gaiman has used (look at the presentation/model photos for help on this!).
