The focus of 'Think together' is to continue learning about AB patterns. We will be developing the understanding that patterns could include a change in size, colour, shape etc. and that patterns can continue in either direction.
Use every opportunity to strengthen and support understanding by encouraging children to describe what they see and to say the pattern out loud. Prompt children to look at what changes in the pattern.
Ensure children are using the correct mathematical vocabulary to describe the pattern, such as bigger, smaller, pattern, repeats.
Encourage your child to make an AB pattern for you to continue with counters.
Repeat, you make an AB pattern for your child, include a mistake to see if they can spot that it isn't quite right. Get them to prove it is wrong using their knowledge of repeats!
