Day 1

This Prerequisite check provides an opportunity to check that the children have developed a secure understanding of equal groups. They will need this understanding in order to move on to the new concept of understanding odd and even numbers, which focuses on recognising whether or not a number can be shared into two equal groups.

Have a range of objects (odd and even quantities) Ask the children to share into equal groups. 

Are the groups fair? Why/Why not?

How could we make it fair/equal?
